What is CodeFromScreenshot?
Welcome to CodeFromScreenshot! It’s an easy, free tool where you can quickly extract and copy code that is buried inside screenshots and images. No need to spend your time retyping code — just upload the screenshot and copy the code into your editor right away.
Why did we create CodeFromScreenshot?
We’re developers building products like pieces.app, and probably like you, we were generating tons of screenshots of code from YouTube videos, Medium articles, Slack messages and so on. We got tired of wasting our time retyping code inside all those images, so we built a code extraction feature inside our Pieces.app product.
CodeFromScreenshot.com is just a simple one-page app exposing the same ML model from Pieces.app, but stripping away any need for users to create an account, login, save or anything else. Just rip the extraction and get on your way.
How does CodeFromScreenshot work?
When you upload a screenshot or other image, our Optical Character Recognition (OCR) algorithm — which is fine-tuned to process code — extracts the pictured code from your screenshot. Using Technical Language Processing (TLP), an offshoot of Natural Language Processing (NLP), we categorize the extracted code by language and do our best to ensure it’s instantly ready for you to use.
How does CodeFromScreenshot relate to Runtime.dev and Pieces.app?
CodeFromScreenshot was built using the Text from Screenshot API in Runtime.dev.
Runtime.dev is our API platform where we are pioneering Technical Language Processing APIs that detect, process, label, enrich and transform technical language.
Pieces.app is our flagship app also powered by Runtime. 100% free, Pieces is an AI-enabled assistant to save, find and re-use useful code snippets. It’s incredibly powerful, fast and deeply plugged into your code editor and browser, and, of course, it can extract code from screenshots 🙂
